Warren Beatty’sterminally hipSenatorialcomedy noir

Warren Beatty writes, directs, produces and stars in this insightful yet hilariously entertaining movie (1999) which portrays the fantasy of every political activist: A respected senior political figure with nothing left to lose decides to come out and speak the truth about the system! Continuing the dream, the public falls instantly in love with this candor, Beatty falls for activist Halle Berry, and suddenly the Senator’s political star is again ablaze… of course, not EVERYONE is happy about an insider telling the truth.

One of the amazing aspects of this film is that it remains fiendishly funny even as it explicitly and irreverently fingers some of the most corrupt players in modern politics. A delight from start to finish, but please don’t be lulled into the afterglow of “It’s only a movie!”. This film is ‘fiction’ with more truth than you are ever likely to witness on network news or national candidate debates.
