MUSIC TIP OF THE MONTH

Genesis, “The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway”

In 1974, amidst massive economic recession and post-Vietnam depression, 5 well-educated lads from England recorded the most intellectually ‘progressive’ rock album ever written. Critically admired and even popular within musical and intelligencia circles, this work has nevertheless eluded mass notice or appeal.

Pity.

Brilliant poetry, challenging music, provocative staging… this is a double CD which matters. A personal journey of confusion and discovery, stepping outside the mundane cycle into the bravado of “what if” and “will you?”

Follow the “real” Rael through a day — his day — in Manhattan, from the moment the policeman clears the sleeping men from the theater at dawn, past the lamia and the carpet crawlers and the colony of slippermen, into the gap between yesterday and nevermore. Then, suddenly, awaken to a new understanding of a place beyond modern man: Where The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway.

“IT is here! IT is now!”
