MUSIC TIP OF THE MONTH
The Eagles, “Hotel California”
One of the best albums of the 1970’s, “Hotel California” combines beautiful melodies, rich harmonies, and thick instrumentation with profound (if sad and cynical) social commentary. For anyone who has not lived the L.A. experience, this album (now in CD form) will take you from the charm that drew folks west to the self-addicting facade which keeps them there despite The Angels’ fall from grace. The final lines from the track “The Last Resort” sums it up neatly: “They call it paradise / I don’t know why / You call someplace paradise / Kiss it goodbye.”
